Between the history of the Luitel peat bog born during the last ice age, and that of the Prémol nuns, who settled in this corner of the Belledonne in 1234, this easy itinerary invites you to travel back in time.
- Guidebook with maps/step-by-stepFrom the Prémol parking lot (alt. 1,080 m), take the small road closed to traffic that runs south past the former Chartreuse de Prémol. Continue on asphalt past the forest house towards Fontaine du Mulet (1.4 km) and Lac Luitel (2.43 km). After a small lake on your left, you reach a fork where you turn right to tackle a steeper climb. Follow the yellow markings. You soon come to another small forest road, which you take to the right. After 350 m, you come to the intersection with La Fontaine du Mulet (alt. 1,105 m). Here, turn left onto a wide track still heading towards Lac Luitel. Go straight up on the main track, and when it bends to the right, continue straight ahead. You pass under small rocky bars and, after a final climb, arrive at the entrance to the Luitel nature reserve, at the outlet of Lac Luitel (alt. 1,270 m). Cross the small footbridge over the outlet (the stream that flows from the lake), and turn left towards the Prémol Charterhouse. Go straight downhill to reach the Chamrousse road, which you cross once to continue on the opposite side of the road, then a second time, where you just have to follow it for a few dozen metres, to reach the Prémol parking lot on your left.
