You can’t improvise a spa treatment, especially when it’s covered by an agreement. Here’s the ideal guide to organising your stay at Uriage-les-Bains with complete peace of mind.
It all starts with your GP. A doctor’s prescription is essential for a health cure that is covered by the social security system. He or she will determine your therapeutic orientation: rheumatology, dermatology, respiratory tract or oral-lingual disorders. Once you have your prescription, send your file to your CPAM without delay: processing times can take several weeks.
Once you have received approval, book your accommodation and dates of treatment. Accommodation close to the spa is very popular at the start of the season, so it’s best to plan ahead at least 3 months in advance. When it comes to luggage, make sure you’ re comfortable first and foremost: swimming costume, bathrobe, walking shoes for walks between sessions, and something to keep you busy in the afternoons. - Is it possible to take a cure without a doctor's prescription?
Yes, absolutely. A la carte treatments (aerobics, sprays, massages, etc.) and 6-day mini-cures are available without a doctor’s prescription. The Spa Thermal also offers free access to its pools, saunas and hammam. Only treatments covered by a health insurance agreement, which entitle you to reimbursement from the French Social Security system, require a prescription from your doctor.
- How do I get to Uriage-les-Bains from Grenoble?
Uriage-les-Bains is around 10 km from Grenoble, about 20 minutes by car on the D524. The resort is also accessible by public transport from the centre of Grenoble and Gières station. For those travelling from further afield, Grenoble station has good TGV services from Lyon, Paris and Marseille.
- What can I do in the evening and on days when I don't have a treatment at Uriage?
Afternoons and evenings at Uriage-les-Bains are far from monotonous! Between walks in the thermal park, signposted hikes in the Belledonne massif, excursions to Grenoble (10 km away), the medieval castle of Uriage, the Luitel nature reserve or the Museum of the French Revolution in Vizille (10 km away), you won’t have time to get bored.
